Snow-fun with Alpin Rodel, an Arctic learning experience
Riding wooden sleds on snow is the original form of sledding with it’s roots in the European alps countries. Alpine Rodel is a new and younger sibling to the old Olympic sport of Luge and carried out on specially adapted wooden sleds with metal runners.
Starting from the winter of 2025, Skellefteå Rodel Society, Sweden’s largest rodel club, offers visitors and locals the opportunity to try and learn the winter activity of alpine rodel, at the local ski resort of Vitberget, just outside the city center.
The activity includes safety instructions, theory and beginners practice with instructors to safely get started on a gentle slope. Afterwards, all participants have the opportunity to try their skills and begin their rodel journey – great fun!
The activity ends with hot drinks and a snack around the outdoor fireplace, and a certificate is included for guests who complete the experience.
The activity is led by experienced instructors, are suitable for all ages from 8 years upwards and no previous experience is required.
Warm winter clothing and sturdy shoes/boots are recommended.
