The Museum of Torne Valley

The museum showcases the history of the Torne Valley region on both sides of the Torne River. The exhibitions introduce you to the traditional sources of livelihood, food, culture, local identity and history in the Torne Valley. In 2014 the museum became the world’s only cross-border museum for the cities of Tornio in Finland and Haparanda in Sweden.

The museum specializes on the life in the Torne Valley as well as on the border of Finland and Sweden. Other themes in the exhibition include marriage, trade and smuggling across the border. The past is brought to life by means of objects, pictures, and films. The exhibition is in Finnish and Swedish, but you can find an English guidebook at the entrance.

In the lobby you can travel virtually to fourteen station points of the UNESCO world heritage Struve Geodetic Arc with a VR-headset.

Guided tours must be reserved in advance.
